By Fr. Alex Ekka S.J., XISS – Ranchi

The Apostolic Interaction on Education as a Mission was held at XISS for the Jesuit communities of Xavier Institute of Social Service and St. Xavier’s college on 9th December 2006 at 5.45 p.m. At first Fr. Henry Barla SJ gave an input for about half an hour on the theme Education as a Mission focusing on higher education, after which there was a sharing of experiences, ideas and insights. This was followed by the Eucharist with Fr. Henry Barla himself as the main celebrant. The homily on John the Baptist was aptly given by Fr. Henry Barla relating it to the role of Jesuit educators as prophets today. The Apostolic Interaction ended with dinner.

I take this opportunity to thank first of all Fr. Henry for agreeing to speak to us on the topic Education as a Mission and facilitate the sharing. I also thank all the Fathers and Brothers who participated in the Apostolic Interaction. This document contains first of all the exhortation of Fr. Henry Barla on Education as a Mission and then a summary of the points that came up during the reflection and sharing. Let us keep up our fellowship and togetherness through the on going Apostolic Interaction.
